Priorities
I've demonstrated my commitment to serving the residents of Ypsilanti, but our work is far from over. Now is the time for meaningful change, and I'm proud to share the actions I've supported to improve the lives of Ypsilanti residents:
Housing access and Development
Amended zoning to permit supportive housing developments.
Served on Community Benefits Agreement Committee for Avalon Housing Development.
Supported housing projects to bring hundreds of new units of housing to Ypsilanti.
Public and Neighborhood Safety
Advocated for increased pedestrian safety measures on neighborhood streets.
Right sized Ypsilanti Police Department to focus on community policing strategies.
Implemented process for speed radar signage on city streets.
Park investment & Recreation opportunities
Advocated for additional tot lot play equipment.
Amended city ordinance to place restrictions on tobacco use near playgrounds to protect our children.
Supported grant applications for new playground equipment.
Secured grant funding for free kayak trips, park repairs, and new park amenities.
Added a new city park on the south side of the city to preserve public spaces for all residents.
Advanced Parks and Recreation opportunities with enhancements across the city park system, including new paved paths, new softball field, Rutherford Pool resurfacing, and more!
Public Infrastructure Projects
Reconstruction of major city roads including Michigan Avenue, Huron, Hamilton, and Washtenaw Avenue with new pavement, traffic signals, and added bike lanes to enhance safety.
Completed multi-million-dollar Forest Avenue Bridge reconstruction project, funded by the state.
Supporting maximizing use of dedicated federal and state funding for remediation of Water Street property to get full scope of the site conditions and contamination.
Solicited and received over $3 million in funding from the state for rehabilitation of the Cross Street Bridge.
Solicited and received over $6 million in state and federal grant funds to remove Peninsular Dam.
Organizational Stability
Hired a new City Manager with track record of dedication to serving Ypsilanti residents.
Hired a new City Clerk with years of election management experience in municipal government.Â
Reached and maintained full staffing levels within the Ypsilanti Fire Department (for the first time in years).
